Designed for superior performance in size- and cost-optimized 5 V wireless chargers, the NXP NXQ1TXA5 wireless charging transmitter integrates everything from power control, signal processing, on-chip current and voltage measument up to a fullbridge output power stage, and achieves standby power ratings of less than 10 mW.
Exceptionally high integration and advanced functionality serve to reduce footprint and standby power consumption. In addition to the Qi coil and resonant capacitors, the NXQ1TXA5 requires less than ten external components. Low pincount enables the use of a very small, 32 pin HVQFN package (SOT617-3) of 5 x 5 mm with a 0.5 mm pitch. This small package size and fewer external components mean the design can use a less expensive PCB. The entire transmitter design can be implemented on a PCB area of less than 2cm2 (1/3 in2).
The NXQ1TXA5 integrates NXPs low-power CoolFluxTM DSP technology and many high-performance mixed-signal features, like extremely low power device detection during standby, and Foreign Object Detection (FOD) for safe wireless charging.
The CoolFluxTM DSP processor performs ASK demodulation, which ensures reliable interoperability. Special ultra low-power circuitry detects devices placed on the wireless charger and the NXQ1TXA5 adapts the FOD function to maintain backward compatibility with Qi wireless power receivers compliant to earlier versions of the Qi low power specification.
The NXQ1TXA5 can be powered by a USB port or USB charger. Using the on-chip Smart Power function, the NXQ1TXA5 detects a drop in the supply voltage and, in response, reduces the transmitted output power. This makes it possible for the design to use a USB port capable of low output power.
For the lowest possible standby power, the NXQ1TXA5 can be powered by the NXP TEA1720, a high-efficiency GreenChip SMPS controller. The combined standby power consumption of the TEA1720 based SMPS and the NXQ1TXA5 meets the highest 5-star rating for low standby power smartphone chargers.

NXP’s 5 V wireless charging transmitter architecture combines our high performance mixed signal technology, in the form of functions like on-chip voltage regulation, on-chip current and voltage measurement, ASK and foreign object detection (FOD) to optimize safe & efficient wireless charging and an integrated full bridge to drive the transmitter coil, controlled by NXP’s low power CoolFlux DSP technology.
The design provides sufficient transmitted output power to enable a 5 W wireless charger receiver output to the battery of the device to be charged, and uses advanced digital ASK signal processing to ensure reliable interoperability. The low power CoolFlux DSP technology will enable an extremely low standby power to minimize power consumption when there is no device placed on the charger. At the same time, it provides a fast device detection and wakeup when charging should start.
The single chip 5 V solution is provided in a package that measures just 5 x 5 mm and requires only very few external components. This enables the smallest possible design for a 5 V Qi low power wireless charging transmitter, with the highest possible efficiency and the lowest possible standby power. Powered by the NXP GreenChip TEA1720 high efficiency SMPS controller in the 5 V supply unit, this Qi A5/A11 wireless charging transmitter becomes an even more optimized solution. And of course, this solution can also use a standard 5 V USB charger with suitable output power.
